Day 1: Welcome to the heart of Java
Your journey begins in Yogyakarta, the cultural heart of Java. Upon arrival, a warm smile greets you, then the road gently leads you into the countryside, where time seems to slow down.
After just a few kilometers, you arrive at the village of Semawung, a discreet and authentic place nestled near the Bogowonto River. Here, life still follows the rhythm of nature. The inhabitants welcome you with simplicity and curiosity, happy to share a moment of their daily lives.
Soon, a delicious aroma wafts from the kitchen: your welcome lunch is being prepared. You'll participate in making a Javanese dish, Tumpeng, a cone of yellow rice surrounded by local specialties. In Javanese tradition, this dish is offered to celebrate important occasions and to wish happiness and prosperity.
Sitting together in a warm and sincere atmosphere, you savor this first Indonesian meal — a simple yet precious moment that marks the beginning of your adventure.
In the afternoon, the time is yours. Perhaps you'll choose to relax on the terrace of a traditional house, or go for a stroll through the village. Rice paddies stretch as far as the eye can see, children play near the paths, and rural life gently reveals its secrets.
Your journey to Java begins gently, getting as close as possible to the locals and their traditions.
Day 2: Village life and authentic encounters (Breakfast – Lunch)
This morning, take the time to savor the gentle beauty of the Javanese countryside. You can enjoy a leisurely morning before indulging in a traditional breakfast, featuring delicious local specialties. You'll discover various Javanese cakes made with glutinous rice, delicately flavored with grated coconut and coconut sugar—flavors typical of the region.
The morning continues with a bike ride through the village, offering a glimpse into local life. You'll visit the village school where the children will be delighted to welcome you. This simple and warm exchange will allow you to enter a classroom, share a few words, perhaps even teach the students a few words of French or sing a little song together. A touching and heartwarming experience, often highly appreciated by travelers.
Back at the village house, you'll participate in a traditional Javanese cooking workshop. Guided by your hosts, you'll learn to prepare several typical dishes using fresh, local ingredients. Lunch will be an opportunity to enjoy the dishes you've cooked yourself in a friendly atmosphere.
In the afternoon, enjoy another cycling excursion through villages and rice paddies. This peaceful ride will allow you to observe the daily lives of the locals, discover the different stages of rice cultivation, and appreciate the beauty of Java's rural landscapes. Spontaneous encounters with the villagers make this a particularly authentic and memorable experience.
Day 3: Visit to Borobudur Temple
After breakfast, you will visit Borobudur Temple, the largest Buddhist temple, surrounded by Java's active volcanoes: Merapi, Merbabu, Sindoor, and Sumbing. The temple is built on a hill, composed of nine tiers of terraces—six square and three circular—crowned by a central dome known as the Stupa. This temple is decorated with 2,672 bas-reliefs and 504 Buddha statues. The central dome is surrounded by 72 Buddha statues, each seated in a perforated stupa. Built in the 9th century during the reign of the Shailendra Dynasty, this temple exemplifies Javanese Buddhist architecture. The Mandala is a concept blending indigenous Indonesian ancestor worship to achieve Nirvana.
Day 4: Yogyakarta, cultural heart of Java & Prambanan temple (Breakfast)
This day is dedicated to discovering Yogyakarta, the cultural capital of Java and guardian of Javanese traditions. To reach the city center, you will take a becak, the traditional cycle rickshaw, a pleasant and authentic way to travel through the city's lively streets.
Your exploration begins with a visit to a traditional market, a vibrant place where colors, scents, and scenes of daily life mingle. It's an opportunity to discover local products and taste some typical Javanese culinary specialties.
The visit continues at the Sonobudoyo Museum, one of the most important museums in Java, where you will discover the richness of Javanese culture through its collections of art, architecture and history.
You will then visit a batik workshop, an emblematic textile art of Yogyakarta. This traditional technique, recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity, reveals all the know-how and finesse of Indonesian craftsmanship.
Before the lunch break, discover the famous Pasar Burung Ngasem, the city's historic bird market, a unique and very lively place, deeply rooted in local culture.
In the afternoon, departure for a visit to the majestic Prambanan Temple Compounds, one of the most impressive sites in Indonesia. Built in the 9th century by the Sanjaya dynasty, this complex is considered the largest group of Hindu temples in the country and one of the most refined in Southeast Asia.
The site comprises over 300 temples, dominated by three main shrines dedicated to the Hindu trinity: Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Magnificent bas-reliefs on the temple walls recount the epic of the Ramayana, a mythological story that continues to inspire traditional Javanese dance and shadow puppet performances.
A day rich in culture and history, offering a deep immersion into the artistic and spiritual soul of Java.
Day 5: The royal city of Solo & the mysterious Cetho Temple (Breakfast)
This morning, departure for Surakarta, better known as Solo, one of Java's major cultural cities. The approximately 1.5-hour journey takes you through the landscapes of the Javanese countryside.
Upon arrival, immerse yourself in the lively atmosphere of Pasar Gede, the city's iconic traditional market. This vibrant place perfectly reflects the daily life of the locals: colorful stalls of fresh vegetables, fragrant tropical fruits, and delicious Javanese pastries.
The exploration continues with a visit to the prestigious Pura Mangkunegaran, a former princely palace founded in the 18th century. This visit perfectly complements a tour of the Sultan's Palace in Yogyakarta and allows you to deepen your understanding of the history and culture of the Javanese nobility. Inside the palace, you will discover precious royal collections, traditional objects, and cultural heritage that testify to the refinement of the Javanese court.
In the afternoon, we'll travel to the slopes of majestic Mount Lawu, a region renowned for its tea plantations and terraced vegetable gardens. You'll visit the fascinating Cetho Temple, a unique site dating back to the 15th century.
Often nicknamed the "erotic temple" because of some symbolic sculptures related to fertility rites, this sanctuary testifies to an important period of transition in the history of Java, marking the gradual shift from Hindu civilization to Muslim influence.
Located in a spectacular natural setting, surrounded by mountains and plantations, the temple also offers magnificent panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes.
In the late afternoon, check into your hotel and enjoy some free time to relax after this day full of cultural and historical discoveries.
Day 6: From Solo to the spectacular Mount Bromo (Breakfast)
This morning, we departed from Surakarta towards one of Indonesia's most iconic landscapes: the majestic Mount Bromo. The journey was made in a comfortable car, taking the highway to the city of Probolinggo, before continuing along a mountain road offering superb panoramic views.
Along the road, the landscapes gradually transform: green hills, traditional villages and vast terraced vegetable crops bear witness to the intense agricultural life in this fertile region of Java.
In the afternoon, you'll embark on a gentle hike up Mount Bromo, away from the usual morning crowds. This approximately three-hour round trip allows you to discover the volcano in a more peaceful and intimate atmosphere. The silence of the volcanic landscape, the vast expanses of sand, and the mist that sometimes hangs over the caldera create an almost surreal ambiance. With a bit of luck, you might witness a magnificent sunset over this unique landscape, a truly magical moment when the colors of the sky blend seamlessly with the volcanic contours.
This experience offers a different and privileged approach to Mount Bromo, often considered one of the highlights of a trip to Java.
Day 7: Sunrise over Mount Bromo – Drive to Banyuwangi (Breakfast)
An early start to experience one of the most spectacular moments of your trip to Java. At 2:30 am, departure from your hotel in a 4x4 jeep to reach, after approximately 45 minutes on a dirt track, the famous Mount Penanjakan viewpoint, the most impressive viewpoint overlooking the great Bromo caldera.
At dawn, the landscape gradually unfolds: the sea of sand, active volcanoes, and surrounding mountains appear bathed in a magical light. Sunrise over Mount Bromo remains an unforgettable experience and one of Indonesia's most iconic panoramas.
After this exceptional experience, you'll take a less frequented path for a short hike down to the Seruni Point viewpoint, located approximately 300 meters below Penanjakan. This walk allows you to discover the beauty of the site in a more tranquil atmosphere, away from the tourist crowds.
You then rejoin your jeep to return to the hotel. Time to freshen up and enjoy your breakfast.
Mid-morning, departure for a grand journey through East Java. The approximately 7-hour drive takes you to the city of Banyuwangi, gateway to one of Indonesia's most fascinating volcanoes: Kawah Ijen, famous for its turquoise acidic lake and spectacular volcanic landscapes.

After about an hour's drive, you reach Paltuding (1,800 m altitude), the starting point for the ascent. The hike, accessible and gradual, takes about 1.5 hours to reach the crater rim, which peaks at 2,386 meters. The first light of morning reveals a spectacular landscape, where volcanic mists mingle with the intense colors of the lake.
On the site, you can also observe the impressive work of the sulfur porters, who carry loads of up to 60 to 125 kg in their traditional baskets every day — a striking testimony to life around the volcano.
After enjoying this unique moment (the best time to visit is between 05:00 and 07:00), descend towards Paltuding and then return to your hotel for breakfast and a moment of rest.
Note:
- For safety reasons related to volcanic gas emissions, descending into the crater is currently prohibited.
- The phenomenon of blue flames is therefore not included in the program.
- People with respiratory problems are advised to consult their guide before the climb.
- The site may be closed on certain Fridays during the first week of the month for environmental reasons.
Late morning transfer to Ketapang Port to cross the strait to Bali Island by ferry.
Upon arrival at Gilimanuk Port, you will be met by your Balinese driver and then transferred to your hotel located in Pemuteran, a charming coastal region renowned for its peaceful landscapes and preserved seabed.
