The country of " Mountain people". The Toraja, one of the ethnic groups that has remained close to its traditions in Indonesia, have a very lively traditional culture, like the Sumbas, but they are also more used to contact with foreigners. However, this does not change their rites, which seem immutably rooted in their daily lives. Despite some rather bloody aspects (animal sacrifices in large quantities during funeral ceremonies), these rites are fascinating in that they are transmitted effectively and persist even through contact with tourism. The cult of the dead, an animist practice that mixes easily with the more recently established Christianity, is one of the most original aspects of the Toraja civilization.

Note : During the next three days in Toraja country, our guide will do his best to have you attend funeral ceremonies. However, you should avoid staying on Saturday and Sunday because in principle the ceremonies are not organized during the weekend, Sunday being the day dedicated to prayer. It is therefore important to plan the dates accordingly. We remind you that nothing is organized for tourists and that all the festivals are authentic.

DAY 03: RANTEPAO/TORAJA COUNTRY
