GREAT SUMATRA CROSSING ROUTE
DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN MEDAN – DISCOVERING THE CITY
Upon arrival at Kualanamu International Airport, you will be warmly greeted by your local guide. After this initial meeting, you will travel to Medan, the vibrant capital of North Sumatra, known for its fascinating blend of Malay, Chinese, and Indian cultures.
Your exploration of the city begins with a visit to the majestic Maimun Palace, the former palace of the Sultan of Deli, built at the end of the 19th century. Its unique architecture elegantly blends Malay, Islamic, and European influences, offering a captivating glimpse into the region's royal history.
You will continue with a visit to the magnificent Medan Grand Mosque, one of the most iconic mosques in Sumatra. Its impressive black dome and refined interior decoration testify to the city's rich Islamic heritage.

DAY 2: MEDAN – BUKIT LAWANG
After breakfast at the hotel, departure towards Bukit Lawang, a charming village located on the edge of Gunung Leuser National Park, one of the last great tropical forests in Indonesia and a natural refuge for the famous Sumatran orangutans.
The journey from Medan will take you through vast rubber and oil palm plantations as well as small local villages, offering an authentic glimpse into rural life in North Sumatra.
Upon arrival in Bukit Lawang, check into your hotel on the banks of the Bohorok River. This peaceful location, surrounded by lush jungle, is renowned for its relaxing atmosphere and unspoiled nature.

DAY 3: BUKIT LAWANG – MEETING THE ORANGUTANS
After breakfast at the hotel, departure for a beautiful immersion in nature in the heart of Bukit Lawang, at the gates of the famous Gunung Leuser National Park.
You will visit the orangutan observation site, where you can witness feeding time and observe these fascinating primates in their natural environment. These encounters often offer unforgettable moments, as the orangutans descend from the trees or swing from branch to branch in the canopy.
The morning continues with a short hike (soft trekking) in the rainforest, accompanied by a local guide. DAY 4: BUKIT LAWANG – BERASTAGI
After breakfast at the hotel, departure from Bukit Lawang towards the charming mountain town of Berastagi, located on the high plateaus of northern Sumatra and renowned for its cool climate and spectacular volcanic landscapes.
On the way, we stopped at the magnificent Sikulikap Waterfall, nestled in the heart of a lush rainforest. This impressive waterfall offers a peaceful and refreshing natural setting, ideal for a short break surrounded by nature.
You will then continue your cultural discovery with a visit to a traditional Batak Karo village, where you can observe ancestral houses and better understand the traditions and way of life of the Batak people.

DAY 5: BERASTAGI – SAMOSIR ISLAND

DAY 7: SAMOSIR – CROSSING LAKE TOBA – PADANG SIDEMPUAN

You will then cross the calm waters of Lake Toba by boat to reach Parapat before continuing your journey to Padang Sidempuan.
